What is STREET GRAPPLING (SG) ?

STREET GRAPPLING is a part of the fighting system called STREET SURVIVING SYSTEMS. There is a big difference between this fighting system and all other martial arts. This fighting system teaches you to really understand what you do and therefore you don't have to copy techniques from your teachers and coaches, because the techniques which you'll apply are an integrated part of your own fighting style. This means, that your fighting style derives entirely from yourself, your abilities and your needs. The central problem of many fighting systems is that individual must adapt to a given fighting system, which is absurd and we on the other hand believe, that it should be just the opposite – the fighting system should adapt to the fighter!
The role of a SG coach is to teach fighters the 10 combat principles which are presenting the core of the whole fighting system. If you understand these fighting principles, you will better understand all other grappling styles like brasilian jiu jitsu, judo and sambo.
Anyone who understands and has mastered the 10 fighting principles of STREET GRAPPLING, will enjoy the following advantages:
1. Because you will have a deeper understanding of what fighting is all about from the very beginning, you will improve much faster than fighters, who just copy techniques from their masters without understanding, why they are implemented in a certain way.
2. A fighter who understands all 10 fighting principles, applies his techniques much more smoothly, fluently, relaxed and in a much more effective way!
3. The knowledge about fighting principles presents a wide basis on which a good fighter builds his »technique-pyramid« . The wider the basis, the higher the pyramid! A fighter, who is just collecting techniques without understanding the principles is like someone, who is trying to build a high tower by putting hundreds of cubes on top of each other. Of course this kind of building isn't stable at all! The slightest wind will just destroy the whole tower! There is no real progress in this case, because the basis is weak and the fighter has to spend a lot of energy to build the tower over and over again. A fighter, who understands the fighting principles acts completely different. Because he has a wide basis, he can build much higher and his tower of learning a whole fighting science is effective and much more natural.

4. A deeper understanding of the fighting principles speeds up the time you need to learn and to improve. Our opinion is, that an average man, who completed 3 years of intensive SG training has the same amount of practical and useful knowledge any other fighters, who need about 10 years to reach the same level.
5. SG is good for all fighters, who want to develop a creative and intelligent way of using their body during a fight as well as in everyday's life. SG is about developing your combat intelligence all the time!

SG is an open and flexible combat system that is designed for the street self-defense. Anyone who would like to know other important aspects of street-fighting, should seriously consider to participate in all other fighting programs of master Aljoša Gorup, the founder of STREET SURVIVING SYSTEMS.

The process of learning SG:
It is very important that fighters are learning the science of fighting from the very beginning without fear, in a relaxed atmosphere in the company of trustworthy people. The process of learning SG goes step by step. This means, that the fighter has to learn simple techniques and principles under easy conditions, before he gradually moves to more stressful and complex situations.

We teach every person as an individual and our goal is to teach people how to fight in a holistic way; fighting is just one part of the whole art. Other important parts of SG are also spheres such as health, interpersonal relations, and personal growth, which we also consider as a very important cornerstones of STREET GRAPPLING.

The purpose of SG is also the preservation of health with appropriate systematic practice. The whole process of learning is not necessarily linked only to the physical aspects of martial arts and skills, because physical conflicts start very often on the verbal level. That is why we teach verbal techniques which are helping people to refocus people involved in a conflict to solve their problem on verbal, not on the physical level. So verbal self-defense is going hand in hand with physical aspects of fighting, so therefore it is important, that people are learning both aspects together.
The philosophy of our club is, that people do not become only good fighters, but also human beings with a peaceful attitude and positive personality.
Bases of SG:

The history of SG:
SG was developed by Robert Lisac. The beginnings of the evolution of STREET GRAPPLING were created , when he actively taught wing chun (1995-2000). Since wing chun traditionally has no groundfighting, Robert successfully added a lot of grappling elements to the normal wing chun training and when he switched from wing chun to free fight, the STREET GRAPPLING concepts and techniques got a new push and this switch had a great impact on the development on SG, because new and innovative teaching approaches were included.
SG experienced a further development in the club DNOBM, lead by Aljoša Gorup, who is also the chiefinstructor of the club. Mr. Gorup was the one who offered Robert the opportunity to slowly expand and spread the art of SG in the Slovenian martial arts sphere. Aljoša proved to be a very capable organizer of seminars, spreading his idea of a holistic approach when it came to teach and learn fighting. He managed to convince people from many different martial arts and fighting sports to attend to several SG seminars, what truly can be considered as a small miracle, especially in Slovenia.

Where u can learn SG?
SG (which is taught by the above-mentioned concepts) can currently be practised only in the DNOBM club and at two traditional seminars in spring and autumn, lead by Robert Lisac. This seminars are regularly attended by many "external hosts", like security guards, policemen, soldiers, as well as students and athletes from other martial arts and sports.

The he main idea of the DNOBM seminars is, that students and teachers grow together by exchanging ideas, concepts, techniques and also a lot of sweat! So it should be no surprise, that many new friendships are made at these seminars, because we believe, that we are all are a part of the same martial arts family, regardless of person's martial arts and fighting sports background.
